According to a survey in 2006 published in Forbes online, 59 percent of people said work was the leading source of stress in their lives. This holds true sometimes at KGBTexas because of the nature of our business. The marketing and creative departments sometime deal with quick turnaround production deadlines. And our public relations department sometimes has to coordinate press releases and media coverage within 24 to 48 hours. Call me crazy but I love the idea that our business is dynamic and sometimes my fellow co-workers and I find ourselves stressed.
Here are some of the suggested stress relievers from the Forbes article and this is what I think about them:
- Stretch It Out – It suggested yoga or an afternoon meditation session in your office or conference room. My version of simple office yoga would be to reach for my candy dish a couple of times of day for a Werther’s. My meditation moments are the two minutes it takes the Werther’s to disappear in my mouth. Come over and try it.
- The Palm Trick – It is suggested when your eyes feel tired rub your palms together and then close your eyes and place your palms over them. Tip: It works better without your glasses.
- Aromatherapy – According to experts the lavender scent is a stress reliever. Use a lavender air freshener or spray a handkerchief with lavender and keep it close by. So the next time you walk by my office and are overwhelmed by lavender you’ll know I’m coping with stress.
- Take a Break – When we are stressed we may look to our favorite comfort foods to relieve the stress. So make the effort to get out for lunch that day and have your favorite hamburger, pot roast, chips and salsa or chocolate cake. And don’t forget to bring some back for your co-workers to relieve the stress around you.
As I pass the blog torch to the next KGBTexas employee I hope some of these tips are useful. And remember I have Werther’s and chocolate at my desk. Use as needed.
