It's not rocket surgery.
Everyone is worried about being “found” on search engines. There are tons of classes and seminars offering instant results on the most popular search engines such as Google and Yahoo! Some charge a nominal fee, while others want an arm and a leg.
There are few things you can do easily to stay in the game, without breaking the bank:
1. Check your tags and keywords. Make sure that each of your pages has tags — title, description, keywords — and that each tag has appropriate information related to the text on each specific page. Keywords should be placed in prime locations and all images should have tags.
2. Update your content. Crawlers or spiders like to index sites that provide new content on a regular basis. If your site hasn’t been refreshed in a while, the bots won’t index them again and only cached pages will pop up.
3. Keep site navigation search-friendly. Develop a clear and logical path to finding sections on your site, use standard tags and check that all links are functional.
4. Balance images, text and animation. Make sure that you have enough text on your site to be crawled, in relation to the amount of images and animation, which sometimes can’t be read. If all you have are images and animation on your homepage, without text or alt tags, it is more probable that your site can’t be crawled.
5. Link to appropriate sources. Other credible sites linking to your site is a good indicator of relevancy for your site. And, don’t forget to have these sites link to you too.
