How familiar are you with mobile marketing? Do you surf the Net using your cell or smart phone? If you do, you are part of 32 percent of Americans who go online wirelessly. Why is this important, you ask? The mobile phone has emerged as the third screen after TV and computers.
Investment in mobile marketing is set to increase by 100 percent according to a poll carried recently. With mobile marketing, you can market to your consumer in a variety of ways. There are about 40 million active users of the mobile Web, according to Nielsen Mobile.
“As more and more powerful devices are bought on more and more powerful networks, mobile will become a dominant part of consumer’s consumption habits, and it will do so with consistently better performing advertising, that we’ve shown continues to deliver great results to highly engaged audiences,” said Frank Barbieri, CEO/founder of Transpera.
Another great benefit of mobile marketing is location-based services (LBS). With the advancements in GPS technology, advertisers are now able to promote their products and services based on a customer’s location. Many applications have been developed to work with LBS. One that works with both the iPhone and Android platforms is Sherpa. The app learns your personal interests and habits — the more you use it the better it performs in predicting what you might be interested in.
As more and more consumers stay connected through their mobile devices, marketers need to integrate mobile marketing into the mix. It’s too soon to predict that mobile is the wave of the future, but it’s safe to say that it’s here to stay.
