You hear all the time about all the bad news that’s out there, especially these days. But we all need to hear the good stories too, to be inspired. I want to share some good news about our town.
I had the honor this week to see the final chapter of something special. It started last summer when a friend asked me to be on the nominating committee for the 2009 San Antonio Ethics in Business Awards. Our job was to nominate individuals, non-profit organizations and businesses we felt promote ethical business conduct. Then UTSA College of Business ethics students took the list and did an intensive study of the nominees during the fall semester. The students wrote a report; they went to a selection committee which then decided who receives the ethics awards.
Tuesday was the awards ceremony at Pearl Stable and I’m so happy to announce that Family Service Association was honored as this year’s non-profit recipient. Everything Family Service does is to help strengthen families, and they’ve been doing it, very quietly, in San Antonio for more than 100 years. One of their board members went to the podium to receive the award, he told the crowd they’ll never know how much this award means to all the good people at Family Service.
San Antonio may never know how much good the Family Service Association has done for us. Thank you.
