The incomparable Rosemary Kowalski
My husband and I attended the Texas Business Hall of Fame dinner on Thursday night at the Hilton Americas in Houston. It was a beautiful evening, and we had a great table filled with friends, business associates and the Houston office team. The attire was black tie, but the conversations were far from uptight and formal.
To my left, I had the distinct pleasure of sitting next to Rosemary Kowalski. Rosemary is the founder of The RK Group, which she began in 1946, and has grown it to one of the largest full-service special event and catering companies in the United States. She was also one of very few women inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame.
But that’s not why Rosemary is impressive. It is that Rosemary is in her ’80s and has more energy and spunk that all of us at that table put together. She is the epitome of what I hope to be when I grow up. She is graceful, never forgets a name, has the most hilarious sense of humor, can outwit any man in the room, loves her family and knows the way the world works. She is someone you can never forget, and you better not, because she’s going to remember you!
And even more amazing, when the dinner was just about over, she reached into her beautiful black perfectly styled even bag and whipped out her iPhone to let the kind gentleman driving her know that she was ready to pack it up and head back to San Antonio for a full day of events on Friday.
So when I hear that technology and the new media are falling on deaf ears for the demographic 50+, this is simply re-affirmation that it’s not about the age, it’s about the mindset.

Katie! I totally agree. Rosemary is and always has been a role model of strength and vitality. She never ceases to amaze those who are close to her, those who watch her from afar or depend on her business to make that all important impression – especially when she is illuminated by the light of an iPhone!
