I was sitting at home yesterday evening starting to collect my thoughts to write a blog about the importance of knowing and understanding your consumer audience in advertising, but I was distracted by the latest episode of “America’s Got Talent” and got caught up watching the show.
Towards the end I was captivated by a group of young dancers and a male magician who had just been told they were not going to the next round. Each of their faces cringed with pain and emotion as they proclaimed “their world was over” and “this was all they had in life.” In that moment I thought of the importance of a dream or goal being deferred or denied.
I have been told “no,” “that’s crazy,” or “you won’t make it” many times in life and have recognized the choice of allowing that to defeat or motivate me. I chose the latter. As I watched the young talent on TV I so wanted to tell them the world is certainly not over. They have not been defeated but their dream may have been deferred another day. The setbacks we experience are not denials of our dreams or abilities. I hope as the young dance crew woke up the next day they chose to be motivated to achieve their dream that had only been deferred another day.

Setbacks are only building blocks for greater things and higher achievements. The road to success is never easy, but its the persistence and belief in your own vision and dream that makes it a reality. You gotta keep swinging for the fences every day of the week.
