I have never been much of a political person. However, I just returned to the Alamo City from a trip to the largest political arena I’ve ever been exposed to – Washington D.C.
While playing tourist, I couldn’t turn a corner without seeing some reference to change. My mind wandered from what “change” has come to mean to some politically to a few new words – choice, excitement and risk.
I have always thought of myself as somewhat set in my ways but lately I have been thinking harder about those aforementioned words. Life is all about choices. We are faced each day with a unique set of opportunities. It is up to us how we respond. Many of these choices come with risk, but more often than not, great rewards. The first step individuals and businesses need to take is naturally the hardest – the PLUNGE.
Whether it is something as simple as redecorating a room or deciding what to have for dinner to completely shifting your business strategy in tough economic times or launching a new brand, it all requires deep assessment and a healthy dose of courage. All of these choices come with their own risk, but as I said before, that risk and the courage that comes with it can be life changing. With the way technology, business and the world in general are changing on a daily basis, it is almost impossible to ignore what is being demanded of us.
It’s hard – especially now – not to take risks . In fact, it seems it has become vital in most cases to stay ahead of the curve balls thrown our way. When a door closes, a window opens right? My next step: Practice what I preach.
