The second monthly SAMPRB (San Antonio Media/Public Relations/Business) tweetup took place at Paloma Blanca. With more than 50 people in attendance, the lively discussion and a delicious lunch we have concluded that it was a great success and Tracy Marlowe from Creative Noggin’ agrees with us.
Remember what I said about walking the talk? This was it.
Despite the fact that this was SAMPRB’s second event, the tweetup had a theme (personal branding), speakers, nametags, table tents, resourceful (and colorful!) flashcards to transition between speakers, information sheets announcing and detailing how to participate on the SAMPRB blog and the SAMPRB Google Group, live streaming, live tweeting and post-event interviews with attendees that will be featured on the SAMPRB blog soon.
Sound like a year’s worth of work? That took only one month to pull together.
So what is the secret?
A clear vision and hard work. Although the first tweetup happened spontaneously it was clear right then and there how much this particular group could benefit from continuous social media education. Nothing formal necessarily but something that would build a community with the potential to inspire itself. It is great to be part of this initiative and things can only get better.
Many thanks to the speakers who joined me at the tweetup – Sales by 5 chief inspiration office Nan Palmero and KSAT Web editor and SAMPRB co-founder Joe Ruiz. Last but certainly not least, a big thanks to Donna Tuttle from the San Antonio Business Journal and SAMPRB co-founder.
Here’s to many more!

You’re so right. The reason this works is because it brings together a group of people who are used to sitting in their silos: TV, radio, newspaper, PR, business — but who ultimately do the same thing: learn about new things and *communicate* about them. We all become better at our jobs when we have time to meet, discuss, share a joke. Broadening our social circle expands our minds, hearts and souls.
Like Joe says, the three of us are unlikely teammates, but that is exactly why it works. We fill each other’s voids. (As Jerry Maguire would say: You two complete me. Oh. yes. I. did.) The thing we have in common is a desire to move ourselves and our industries forward and have fun while doing it. Can’t wait for the next one.
