The song goes, “The old gray mare, she ain’t what she used to be.” And in my case, no, I’m not. Until recently, I thought of 40 as old. Now that I am less than 12 months away, it’s starting to look a little younger. It is the new 20 isn’t it?
But on a serious note, I can’t believe how quickly we all (advertising and public relations veterans) have responded and changed within KGBTexas to learn, embrace, and lead social media and digital marketing efforts for ourselves and for our clients. And it’s shocking to me to see some companies who absolutely refuse to believe that it’s here to stay. And unfortunately for them, they’re going to be left in the digital dirt.
People insist on two-way communication, and they expect to be part of the process. We tell our clients all the time, your customers are out there talking about you. You can choose to participate in the conversation, or not. We advise them to participate.
And for those who don’t believe that social media and interactive digital communication are here to stay, let me quote from Henry Ford who said if he had asked his customers what they wanted, “they would have asked for a faster horse.” We don’t like faster horses around here. We like rocket powered (but environmentally friendly) transport that takes you to the future.
