WARNING: Some language in this trailer may be objectionable to some viewers.
My relatives, friends and colleagues who have a relatively normal grasp on pop culture (they’re not cutting edge but they’re not dragging behind) knew nothing of the movie “Kick-Ass” until I told them about it. Now, it’s all they can talk about.
The clip above from the movie’s Web site is probably the tamest one in circulation. There are much cruder ones here and here. The latter was my first exposure to this film.
These are “red band” trailers, which means the trailers themselves are rated “R.” At the movies, when you see any preview, no matter the rating of the movie, it is usually “suitable for all audiences,” so it has a green band.
The distributor, Lionsgate Films, is working the social media hard. It has integrated comments and interaction through Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and MySpace. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen one TV ad for this movie, not that they aren’t coming. But the hope for Lionsgate is the red-band buzz will generate momentum for when the traditional advertising kicks in.
And in case you were wondering, several of us are already planning our trip to the theater April 16.
